Most Australian businesses that shop for a Deel alternative are not unhappy with Deel. They have realised they bought the wrong shape of product. Deel is a global hiring platform: its value is hiring in a country where you have no legal entity, and its Employer of Record product is priced accordingly, at $835/emp/mo. If every person on your payroll lives in Australia, that machinery does nothing for you, and the local things you do need (Modern Award interpretation, Fair Work paperwork, Single Touch Payroll) are the parts Deel treats as one country among 150.
What are the best Deel alternatives in Australia?
The best alternatives to Deel in Australia are Employment Hero, BambooHR, Connecteam, Payoneer Workforce Management and ELMO Software. Employment Hero is the strongest all-in-one swap for a local team, BambooHR is the pick for onboarding and hiring, Connecteam is built for shift-based and deskless workforces, Payoneer Workforce Management is the cheaper route to Employer of Record cover, and ELMO Software is the Australian mid-market choice. Which one fits depends on a single question: is your workforce Australian, or genuinely global?
Why merchants leave Deel
Deel's HR product is Free up to 200 employees, and it charges per employee only above that allowance. So the exit is rarely about the HR subscription itself. It is about two other things.
The first is Employer of Record. EOR is a separate and much larger cost, at $835/emp/mo, and it is the product Deel is really built to sell. A business with an all-Australian team is paying attention (and often money) to infrastructure it will never use.
The second is local depth. An Australian employer needs the correct Modern Award applied to a casual's Sunday shift, and needs Single Touch Payroll Phase 2 filed with the ATO. Employment Hero and ELMO Software are built around that; Deel reaches it through a global compliance layer. If awards and superannuation are your daily problem, a local platform is simply a better tool. Plans and pricing checked July 2026
How we chose
We ranked these on what actually changes when you leave Deel: Australian compliance depth (Modern Awards, Fair Work, STP Phase 2), whether payroll is native or an integration, the strength of core HR (onboarding, applicant tracking, performance, leave), the fit for desk-based versus shift-based teams, and cost at real headcounts. Pricing is read live from our database in Australian dollars, and the calculator below costs each option at your own employee count. We are independent and not owned by any provider. Where a provider pays us a commission, it does not change its position here: two of the five picks below carry honest caveats that cost us clicks.
Other options worth knowing
Two more platforms are worth a look but did not make the ranked list. Rippling bundles HR, payroll and IT device management, which is compelling if you are also handing out laptops, though its Australian pricing is quote-only and modular, so the bill climbs as you add modules. HiBob is a strong mid-market HRIS with the best people analytics of any option here, but it is not Australian-native, payroll runs through an integration, and it is quote-only on an annual contract. If your reason for leaving Deel is EOR cost specifically, also compare Papaya Global and Multiplier, both of which sell Employer of Record without a local entity.
The verdict
If your team is entirely in Australia, Employment Hero is the alternative to beat: it does the award interpretation and Single Touch Payroll that Deel treats as a regional detail. Choose BambooHR if onboarding and hiring are the reason you are switching, Connecteam if your people work shifts rather than desks, and ELMO Software if you are mid-market and want Australian-built modules. Keep Deel, or move to Payoneer Workforce Management, only if you genuinely hire across borders. Use the calculator above to cost each at your own headcount before you commit.
